John Vallo
Feature Win (#296), Kil-Kare Speedway 30 Lap, Sep 14, 2007
Jerry Wahl's "Off the Wahl" by Jerry Wahl Xenia, OH. - It was a cool night for racing Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway but the fans were treated to a thrilling night of action as the track closed out the 2007 season. with Tim Allensworth, Terry Humphrey, .Heath White and Tim Haerr wrapping up their points championships in their respective divisions. John Vallo and Sam Heckman brought the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models to the starting line with Vallo right away charging into the lead only to see the caution come out on lap two when Tim Rauch spun in front of Tim Allensworth on turn two. Rauch went back to the tailend and Allensworth was left in second to try to catch Vallo who had built up nearly a half lap lead over the field but Allensworth was rapidly closing the gap when the caution flew with just five laps to go as Allensworth was on Vallo's rear bumper. They were hard charging when Allensworth slipped by Vallo and then Allensworth spun on turn two after contact with Vallo and both were sent to the tail.Justin Alsip who was running third inherited the lead and went on to record his first feature win of the year. Jamie Sites wound up third with Virgil Powell fourth and Shawn Stroble fifth. The make-up feature from the week before had Tim Rauch and Sam Heckman lead the field to the flag but on the move was John Vallo who took control on lap six. It wasn't long before Tim Allensworth was on the move also and move he did as he moved right up to challenge Vallo. The two put on quite a show for the fans as Allensworth tried his best to catch Vallo but that attempt ended when Allensworth spun with ten laps to go. From then on it was Vallo building up a commanding lead to claim his 296th career win. Justin Alsip did a good job moving up to claim second with Sam Heckman home third. Jamie Sites was a solid fourth and fifth was Jeff Marsh. Jason Mahaffey and Terry Humphrey brought the Muffler Brothers of Xenia modified to the green in their thirty lap feature with both of them running side by side down the backstretch with Mahaffey taking control out of turn three. The caution came out on lap nine when Shawn Stroble spun on the frontstretch. Mahaffey continued to lead followed by Humphrey and Jack Jones running third with Mart Timmerman fight behind him. Mahaffey started to pull away from Humphrey to claim his second feature of the year. Humphrey with his second place finish clinched the track championship.. Jones held on to claim third at the checker with Timmerman fourth and Shawn Stroble fifth. The Muffler Brothers of Xenia modified feature that had fallen victim to rain on lap three the week before was finalized tonight with a very happy young driver by the name of Derek Weatherhead claiming his first ever feature win. Weatherhead was in the lead and continued to hold that spot when the event resumed and he sure let his fellow competitors know he was on a mission and that was to win. Jack Jones had one of his best runs to date as he battled with veteran Terry Humphrey to finally take over second from Humphrey to finish second with Humphrey third followed by Jason Mahaffey and Caleb Rescher. The sport stock feature had an exciting finish as two cars crashed as they crossed the line. Heath White had it his way as he led all twenty laps to claim his second win of the year. Mike South Sr. ran second most of the way but defending champ Tom Williams moved up to challenge South for second. As the checker waved on White South and Williams crashed coming across the line with South credited with second and Williams moved back to ninth due to the altercation. Dave Lecocq secured the points championship with his third place finish with fourth going to Mike South Jr. and fifth was Rusty Clark. The Oakley Blacktop compacts took to the track for the last time with eighteen cars facing starter Mike Stapleton's green flag with Mike Robertson and Randy Walton setting the pace Walton showed as the leader but he sure had the pressure on him with a bunch of eager challengers behind him. Fast timer Chris Boggs passed Aaron Harshbarger to run second with Tim Haerr right behind him. The trio ran bumper to bumper with first Boggs trying to pass Walton but was unable to. Haerr tried desperately to make an outside pass but just could not pull off the move. As Walton took the checker Haerr just beat Boggs for second with Bogs third followed by Harshbarger, and Darryl Young.. For Haerr it was great night as he captured the points championship.
