"Vallo Wins Kil-Kare Main Event Qualifier"
XENIA, OH - June 21 - Midvale Speedway promoter Chris Tolloty brought the second leg of his Main Event Qualifier to Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night for the first appearance of the Super Late Models in many a year. And,it was former track champion and many time feature winner John Vallo and the Burco Trucking Camaro taking the win and the $3,000 winner's prize. Twenty-eight cars clocked in for the night with Vallo the fast timer at 13.482.
With the top six qualifiers inverted for the start of the 100 lap grind, this put Roger Black, winner of the first event and Bret Oakley, in the front row. Black jumped into the lead at the drop of the green with the first of five cautions coming out on lap 12 when Tim Ice and Gary Carter spun. The Robbie Dean and Greg Buele tangled and Black darted to the pits for a new tire.
This put the fifth fast qualifier, rookie Oakley out front. Black and Dean were eliminated four laps later when they crashed as they came upon a slower moving car. When the green reappeared, Vallo applied the pressure to Oakley, making his pass good coming out of turn four and kept the yellow
#2l in front the rest of the way.
Vallo had built up quite a lead as he lapped most of the field but all eyes were on second running Mike Stacy, who was rapidly closing the gap on Vallo as the laps were down and was within striking distance the cheker waved. Third went to Kil-Kare regular Wayne Watercutter, who was behind the wheel of the Mike Miller
#53 with Ernie Shook and Rich Dessecker fourth and fifth.
