Kil-Kare Speedway 1166 Dayton-Xenia Road Xenia, Ohio 45385 937 429-2961 Vallo Claims Kil-Kare Grand Re-Opening by Jerry Wahl Xenia, Oh. (6/20) - The long awaited re-opening of the repaved Kil-Kare Speedway was well received by the drivers and the fans that packed the grandstands of the facility Friday night . Neither was disappointed as the super smooth track saw the cars running three wide sometimes and most events hotly contested and not decided until starter Larry Beddies waved the checker flag. The thirty lap NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model feature had Greg Stapleton starting on the pole with Jim Lewis Jr. of Fairborn, who was making his late model debut starting alongside. Lewis shot into the lead and found a groove that kept him in front while the other competitor jockeyed for positions. Stapleton rode in second. In the meantime, John Vallo of Fairborn, who started sixth was sizing up the frontrunners. By lap three the crafty veteran had passed Dave Barnhart for third, dropped Stapleton back to third on lap six and then drafted his plan to dispose of leader Lewis. Lewis looked as if he just might hold off Vallo, but Vallo who previously this year had finished second and third was hungry for a win. Exiting turn three into four Vallo put his Paul Storer owned Wright Construction Monte Carlo around Lewis for the lead and his first feature win at Kil-Kare in three years. Lewis drove a superior race to claim second with third going to fast timer (14.08) Virgil Powell with Stapleton fourth and three time winner Gary Estes fifth.
