"John Vallo Victorious at Columbus Motor"
COLUMBUS, OH.-Sept. 8 - John Vallo colleted his fourth Super Late Model feature win of the 2001 campaign Saturday at Columbus Motor Speedway. The Fairborn, OH veteran outdistanced a stellar 25 car field in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series event for the second consecutive week at the central Ohio oval.
Don Whetnall and Danny Eaves lined up at the front of the evening's 40 lap main event with the former taking the point from the outset. Vallo started third and was in contention early on. He pressured the runner up through lap 12 when Eaves spun bringing out the race's first caution. Whetnall remained in control on the restart fending off Vallo and the evening's fast qualifier, Mike Holland through mid-race. That's when the seven time track champion made his move. Vallo pulled to the outside of the leader and the pair dueled side-by-side through lap 28 when before pulling ahead. Whetnall gave chase but had to settle for second in the end. Holland brought his Camaro home third followed by Dominic Bando and Jerry Mitchell.
