Dennis, appears to me the car is outfitted as it was for the beach speed trials, not for actual racing. Here's a photo at Bowman-Gray Stadium from Hemmings showing a roll bar:

Here's two shots of Corvettes at Winston-Salem's Bowman Gray Stadium: 1) T.Taylor Warren photo of Billy Myers - no roll bar evident: 2) A photo posted on this site by randy Myers showing Junior Johnson in the 'vette... can't see if a rool cage is there or not

Much of the history of VIN #211 is on Terry's web page.According to Terry when Gray Tuttle found the car in Winston-Salem in 1958 the car had the rollbar loop as shown on the Pee Wee Jones #3 version still attached(by the way was only attached to the fiberglass and not to any metal component).Sometime while still in his possession Gray removed that Roll bar.The holes where it was mounted were not removed during the restoration process.Gray Tuttle gave certain items that positivetly identified it.The documentation on the car is very amazing.

Some of the history of the car can be found at Terry Michaelis' web site: http://www.tmichaelis.com/tag/classic-car-community/ Here are several photos from that link:
