Lynn, another great photo, in addition to Sam's potent Fairlane, the panorama of "old" Myrtle Beach.........the low banking, old concession stand and restrooms are plainly evident. This was the look before the renovations of the 1980's that elevated the banking, added the concrete retaining walls and the infield tunnel. The renovations were aimed at obtaining the Busch Grand National events dates....wildly popular until NASCAR pulled the plug for glitzier markets.

this was a bad little car, saw sam win 4 100 lappers in row in the mid 70s, great driver

Sam was a great competitor and a rare Ford driver in the days of almost all Chevies. Sam was well repected by fellow competiors . Because of his racing his performanc and the defunct Augusta Raceways he has be selected to be inducted into the Augusta International Raceway Hall of Fame on Sept 16th 2011. Come join Sam in the honor of being inducted.
