In the bottom right corner of the page, under the logo, there is a note about Editor Brenda Simmons interviewing Edsel Beard. If you have the page with that interview I 'd sure be interested to see it. Edsel, who passed in 2011, was the father of future Wilson County Speedway Late Model Champ J.E. Beard of Bailey, NC. J.E.'s car once won best appearing at Martinsville's big Cardinal 500. J.E. was also a noted engine builder who worked for Jack Tant and built the in-house engine for Lake Speed at his Kannapolis shop that took Lake to his Darlington Rebel 500 win. Edsel had an old fashioned store/sports center on NC Highway 581, north of Bailey and just before the small community of Mt. Pleasant on the road to Stanhope, NC. I bet our member Hugh Overcash has passed that spot manny times. Our Limited Sportsman shop of Danny Lee's was just past Edsel Beard's store. It is wonderful that you have these historic magazines. --------------- John Edsel "Ed" Beard, Jr. Nov. 15, 1927 July 23, 2011 [1]John Edsel Ed Beard, Jr., 83 of Bailey, died Saturday. Ed, a WWII Navy veteran was owner/operator of Eds Sport Center for over 50 years. He died in his home surrounded by family. A private service will be held at a later date. He is survived by a son, J.E. Beard and wife Barbara; two daughters, Sherry Beard Tant and husband Jimmy and Kay Beard; a grandson, Kevin Beard and wife Debbie; and two great-grandchildren, Sierra and Heather Beard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ellis Beard, a granddaughter Stacy L. Beard and a great-grandson, Kevin D. Beard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to For the Love of Dogs, 5146 Quaker Road, Wilson, NC 27893. Arrangements are by Joyners Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net [2].

Sorry, there is not aBeard interview. My guess is that the picture and comment on the bottom might refer to an upcoming issue, but this is the only one I have.
