@tmc-chase8 years ago I think The Tennessean typesetter may have been a little punch drunk as he tried to make the publishing deadline. Earnhardt and L.D. were both credited with 4th, and the rest of the running order is then off by one. Unless Dale perhaps relieved L.D. (or other way around) and both names were noted in the finishing order. Will have to consult the expert, Mr. Russ Thompson.

They actually held up the race start 23 minutes for Mike Alexander to get to the track? Then Alexander brings out the caution that skews the results... bet he was pretty unpopular with his fellow drivers that evening.

My dad was never an Alexander guy. Partly because he perceived him as a "money" racer - at least based on Nashville's standards. And partly because Waltrip drove for a while for R.C. We all have our reasons I suppose. Ha.One night during a 100 or 200 lap race - I remember it being more than just a 25 or 50 lap feature - Mike had an issue resulting in a caution. He hit the "garage" such that it is at Nashville & disappeared from view. He was down there for what seemed like a half-hour, and the field continued to circle under yellow. Finally he roared back on the track and was still on the lead lap since laps didn't count under caution. I don't remember how he fared that night. But I do remember my dad being really bent over what he believed was favorable bias towards the 84.
@dave-fulton8 years ago Have seen that kinda stuff before at weeky tracks. Always made me mad as all get out
