I wrote back to advise it was on no concern to me and considering NASCAR already violates freedom of speech with its drivers, I am not surprised that Brian has determined that Freedom of Speech as well as Freedom of the Press are barred from the NASCAR lexicon. I further advised that Brian has already ticked off many folks with the person he has chosen to endorse for President. I could care less who the mindless Brian endorses. For a man so dependent upon sponsors and in the LAST YEAR of the Sprint deal, can you believe this moron was stupid enough to do that? Oh, and I noticed he made a comment that he had no idea his personal endorsement was such a big deal. Guess maybe that time freedom of speech is not within his control.
Now, the story gets even more interesting. I was still working on my computer when another e-mail pops up from NASCAR. In essence, it stated that after further consideration I was welcome to return to the Fan Council. I respectfully declined stating simply it was a waste of my time and the time of any member of said council. I closed every survey in 2015 with my cell number and told them I would be happy to discuss my feelings with them. My phone never did ring from Daytona so I guess they have no interest in what a fan, a true fan, really thinks. To all of you out there who are a member of the council, and NASCAR has admitted they limited membership to 12,900 (more than were in the stands at Atlanta), do your duty. If you think your opinion matters, good for you. That is exactly what they want you to believe.
Now let's talk racing. Daytona had an exciting finish although Dumb Denny dumped Madman Kenseth to win. I'm still waiting to see how Kenseth handles that when they get to Martinsville. Atlanta, what I saw of it, was better racing than we've seen in a long time. I will always believe if NASCAR would dump the splitter, racing would begin to return to the sport all we old timers remember. But, I guess that is too simple.
Las Vegas, again, what I saw of it, had some good racing through most of the race. There was passing and there were drivers actually having to DRIVE the car for the first time in their Cup career. The finish was exciting and the look for Godly Gibbs as his car was passed and lost the race. Oh how I loved that. Tough luck Joe.
On to Phoenix. My grandson's soccer team had a "Bye" week so I got to watch a good portion of this race, off and on between other things I was involved with. The racing, for the most part, was actually racing. Seems for the umpteenth time in the last 10 to 15 years the tires were not up to the task. With all the work Goodyear does, I don't see how this continues. Remember Indy several years back when the caution was thrown every 25 laps so the crews could change tires. That was one of the most awful races I have ever witnessed and those were the days when I never missed a lap. I never heard whether Goodyear charged the teams for all those tires, but in the interest of good relations, I hope so. Oh, wait!!!! Goodyear has the monopoly for supplying tires. Oh well.
As I watched the Phoenix race, I once more noticed some good racing. I refuse to believe that JGR is so good their cars can seem to dominate the event. Ah, but wait!!!! In spite of the efforts of "Cousin Carl" to wreck Harvick, the Chevy beat that ....................... to the line. Another very close finish, as close as Daytona. So, are these close finishes representative of better racing? Well, such finishes as we have seen in at least four of the races thus far indicates the finishes are breathtaking. Carl the Magnificent said in his post race interview that he could have and should have wrecked Harvick to win. I'm sure the mighty Joe Gibbs would agree with him, but that would have deprived me of the thrill of seeing that "humble face" of the prayer warrior as his car bashed Harvick and still lost. Oh how I love that.
You know, with the new rules NASCAR has put out there for competitors, Carl Edwards could say little else than what he did say. He can't bad-mouth Harvick, and he had to be careful how he worded his statements. For Carl, not too easy with his limited vocabulary. The "boys have at it" went out the window with Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. I guess Joe Gibbs is the only reason Freedom of Religion is still included.
And while we are on the subject of JGR, when do you think NASCAR will realize that Kyle Busch is killing the Xfinity series? Three in a row now and he has dominated each one. Kyle himself has said it's taking candy from a baby so he enjoys it. I wonder how it must feel to pull in with a rig and car worth several million while some of those guys aren't even a tenth of that budget. I do not believe, nor will I ever accept the premise that the Xfinity regulars learn from Kyle Busch (or any sprint driver) being in the race. Back in the days when I raced, we started in Hobby and if and when we got good enough we went to late model sportsman. You learn with your peers and move up to learn more with the higher group. I call foul on Kyle Busch. NASCAR should give the cup guys the deal that yes, they can race Xfinity if they want, but there will be NO purse money and the overall finishing order will not include them. Want to bet there will be no Kyle Busch in the next Xfinity race?
I think the addition of Jeff Gordon to the FOX Broadcast staff is a smooth move. Jeff makes both of the Waltrip brothers sound even dumber than usual. Jeff makes D.W. sound as though he has no clue as to what is going on. As for Mikey, well, I won't even go there. FOX has lowered broadcasting standards to the lowest level in history. The poor television ratings may not be due so much to the actual racing, but directly attributable to those parasite Waltrips. No surprise NASCAR can't recognize that. NASCAR just can't make sense of anything these days.
Let us not forget that the Sprint folks are gone on December 31. Would you not think that some potential new sponsor would already have been announced and things being prepared for the 2017 season? Think of the potential sponsors being approached for what I believe is 10 Billion Dollars for ten years. At least that's what I've heard. Television ratings are in the toilet. Attendance at the tracks continues to decline to death rattle standards. Now Brian the Brainless has endorsed a candidate that many potential sponsors (if ever there were any) will not be pleased about. Good move Brian. Maybe you could approach Coke Zero which would fit right in with your IQ.
So, what do you folks think? Racing better, or is it just the finishes? Will The Cup Series get a new sponsor? Will Camping World stay with NASCAR after its CEO made very negative comments about Brian's endorsement of a presidential candidate?
At this time, I am withholding my endorsement of any Presidential Candidate. I can, however assure you my endorsement will not go to the pants suit wearing broad butt who has no conception of what truth may be.
Oh, and I'm also aware that the Gross National Product is about to take a huge dip due to the "Bracket Wars" for this March Madness. I won't even go into how disgusting I think basketball is. I do wish Mikey would play and D.W. would call the games. That is the perfect place for them.
