Although barely visible, the footprint of the former Columbus, GA Speedway is still visible off of Blackmon Road. The once 1/2 mile dirt oval was the site of NASCAR's (original season) 1948, championship finale' with Red Byron claiming the modified championship. Columbus hosted a single NASCAR Grand National even in 1951, won by Tim Flock. The speedway ceased operation around 1953.

Our 30 acrefamily property starts about a 1000' off the west end of this ghost. One of two speedways in Columbus. The other being the Columbus Super Speedway off S Lumpkin rd. It was a 1/4 mi asphalt. Big Sam won a few races at the Super speedway.
