This week, Mike Bell looks back at a true NASCAR pioneer over at
Georgia Racing History.com .Mrs. Betty Lilly became interested in racing at the old Valdosta 75 speedway back in the early 60s. That interest grew to involvement, as she put together a team for one of her favorite drivers, Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member Sam McQuagg, to drive in the NASCAR Grand National series. That team and car helped Sam become the 1965 NASCAR Rookie of the Year. Over the next few years, Bobby Allison and Jack Harden would also pilot Mrs. Lilly's cars.Mrs. Lilly was a true racing pioneer as a woman car owner in NASCAR, and we're proud to tell her story this week over at
Georgia Racing History.com .The big weekend is upon us! The folks here at RacersReunion.com are busily preparing for the inaugural Middle Georgia Racer's Reunion, to be held March 11-12 at the old Middle Georgia Raceway near Byron, Georgia. Former drivers, fans, and just friends of racing in general are invited. Admission is $5 for both days, with kids under 8 admitted free for this celebration of Georgia's Racing History. For more information, check out their web site, and we hope to see you there! Thanks to Jeff Gilder and the folks at Racer's Reunion for letting us be a part of this great event! We received word Wednesday that, due to family illness, Susan Milam Morgan has cancelled plans for the West Atlanta Raceway/7 Flags Raceway reunion, which had been scheduled for March 20. Susan's mother has fallen gravely ill, and we ask that you please keep her and her entire family in your prayers over the coming days. Susan said that anybody who had pre-paid will get a full refund, so you should be hearing from her soon. Again, all of our thoughts and prayers are with Susan and her family at this time. The second annual Athens Speedway Reunion is set for April 9 at the South Jackson County Elementary School between Athens and Jefferson on Highway 129.
