As I'm sure many of you know, driver
Kyle Busch and his Joe Gibbs racing team were slapped with a hefty fine following last Sunday's race at Pocono, Pennsylvania after his
#18 M&Ms Toyota failed post-race tech.
But if you thought the penalty was in any way harsh, you need to take a look at some of the things that happened to Georgia Racing Hall of Famer
Tim Flock when he would go up against NASCAR back in the day. That's exactly what we do this week over at
Georgia Racing History.com .
Imagine if, because he chose to run a non-NASCAR event after the end of the season, five time champ
Jimmie Johnson was to be completely stripped of one of his titles. Imagine
Tony Stewart being stripped of a win after NASCAR reversed a decision on what he could or couldn't have on his car on the spot. Or imagine
Jeff Burton being thrown out of the sport completely for trying to make racing better for the competitors.
Sure, you would say, it's easy to imagine all that stuff. But it could never happen.
But it did, all to
Tim Flock during the course of his career as a racer in NASCAR, and more. You can read all about it this week over at
Georgia Racing History.com .
Unfortunately, we have some sad news to share again this week. Our condolences go out to the family of
Pamela Snow Hinton , wife of ESPN.com senior writer and former Atlanta motorsports writer Ed Hinton . A notable figure in the motor racing community in her own right, has died of cancer, according to family members. She was 59. A public memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
The North West Racers Reunion will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Landmark Restaurant, located at 2740 Martha Berry Hwy in Rome, Georgia.
We don't have any birthday's listed on out Happy Birthday wishes list for this week, so if you know of somebody from Georgia racing who is celebrating a birthday, please with them a happy one for us (and let us know so we can add them to the list!).Thanks everybody, and have a great week!

Good story and the fines and such were alot harsher till the higher up's decided to change the course in the mid seventies at Charlotte. When they were caught with illegal parts and or could not pass post race inspections they were stripped of the win and got last place points and money. That is when the politics started getting involved and sponsors demands started ruining racing as we knew it.Again thanks for the post.
I had the honor of listening to Tim and his wife give a detailedtalk about all that happened tothem during this period in his racing career. Shortly before his death, Tim was the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Hornets Nest Region of theAntique Auto Club of America(AACA), in Charlotte. I thought I knew racing, but I learned so much more that night than I ever expected went on during those years. Tim was a class act that night, and even though he was obviously sick, he took the time to discuss any and all questions. I am poorer for never having seen him race, in person. I did buy one of his autobiographical books and it is just full of racing history. AREAL racer......Steve
