We take time to remember a lost Georgia track and highlight a recent reunion at www.georgiaracinghistory.com this week.Thunderbowl Speedway in Valdosta, Georgia, opened in 1959, with drivers coming from all over to race there, including Sam McQuagg and Harvey Jones. The track closed in 1999, but it's memory is kept alive thanks to the efforts of the South Georgia chapter of GARHOFA, who this year hosted the annual Thunderbowl Speedway reunion! You can have a look at some of the sights from this year's event by going to www.georgiaracinghistory.com !A few side notes:Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to David Sosebee (Dec. 8), and in memory of Lloyd Seay (1919-1941) and Alan Kulwicki (1954-1993) on Dec. 14.Thanks folks, and I hope you have a great weekend!Brandon ReedGeorgia Racing History.com

I remember the Thunderbowl north Valdosta speedway very well, but loved the I-75 speedway just as much! With Sam McQuegg,Harvey and Huland Jones(Harvey's brother who was killed in a racing accident),Eddie McDonald in the gold #90 Tifton Special,Leroy Yarborouh(didn't spell that right),Hubert Humphrey, and many more in beautifully prepared "specials".The I-75 Speedway was just off the Madison Highway on the Valdosta airport property, right beside the interstate. The speedway was a mildly banked half-mile that was pretty smooth and very fast. That place hooked me in racing for life!!
