www.georgiaracinghistory.com .Gainesville, Georgia's Pete Craig began racing Indy-style cars in the 1920s, soon after coming home from World War I. He competed and won at Daytona Beach, Lakewood and all over the south. Along with racing, Craig was also a writer for the Atlanta Journal, following in the footsteps of his father, who was an early editor of one of Gainesville's early newspapers, the weekly Eagle.Mike Bell put this story together after meeting Craig's son, Pete Craig, Jr., back in 2006, and its stands as one of the few current chronicles of one of Georgia's first racing pioneers!You can read about Craig and his life over at

Frank is best remembered as the 1962 Southern 500 champ. He was a friend to many and will be sorely missed.
