This week we take a look back at two racing films made in Georgia over at
Georgia Racing History.com .
Many racing pictures have been made over the years. Some are pretty good. Most are pretty bad.
Two of the ones made in the state of Georgia includes 1967's "White Lightnin' Road", and 1972's "Corky". Both featured local drivers and tracks, as well as familiar cars and people who would go on to be members of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame
We take a look at both of the films this week in my column over at

Tomorrow, Aug. 7, is the big day - the day of the third annual Lakewood Speedway Reunion at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, located in the Dawsonville Municipal Complex in Dawsonville, Georgia
This year, we plan to honor the Flock Brothers of NASCAR fame, Tim, Bob and Fonty, who were among the winningest drivers of record at Lakewood. Along with the three brothers, we plan to honor the other members of the Flock family that made them a unique group in the annals of Georgia Auto Racing. We're also anticipating a big turnout from the motorcycle community, as several former two-wheel racers have said they plan to come out to the event this year for the first time as we also prepare to induct our first champion motorcycle racer, Ted Edwards, into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in October. We're also planning to have a host of vintage dirt track racing motorcycles on hand to pay homage to the two-wheeled history that was written at Lakewood, along with all the four wheel history there. Cost to attend is $15, which includes a catered meal from the world famous Dawsonville Pool Room. Reservations are required. Attendants are encouraged to bring any photos or memorabilia from the speedway. For more info or to RSVP, you can call 706-265-3256. You can also get more info at

Also, you can now purchase tickets to both the Lakewood Speedway Reunion and to the GRHOF banquet in October through the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame website! Again, just visit

Thanks to all, and have a great weekend!

Brandon, I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Corky" is one of the worst movies of any kind ever made. It absolutely reeked of stupidity and very bad acting. Admittedly, the racing action actually shown in the movie is good, but 10 minutes out of the what, 90 minute movie. I saw that movie when it came out, when, early 70s, and my one experience with that one is still in my mind as absolutely aweful!!! "White Lighting Road" is one I haven't seen. Maybe I'll get my chance to see that one.Tim
