It was in the early 1960s, and Ken headed for one of NASCAR's newest speedways to see his heroes do battle on the high banks. Unfortunately, things didn't go exactly as planned.

In other news, preperations are underway for the eighth annual Induction Banquet for the
Georgia Racing Hall of Fame . This year, five new members will be added to the ranks of Georgia's greats, including Ted Edwards, Ernie Elliott, Jack Etheridge, Laverne Kendrick and Jerry Wimbish. The banquet will be held on the evening of Oct. 22, and will include some new features that we've never had at any previous event, including a special recognition of all our past inductees! Word came down this week that 2009 GRHOF inductee Katron Sosebee suffered a heart attack. Please keep Katron and his family in your thoughts and prayers over the next week.
In other news,
Gresham Motorsports Park , the official track of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, has annoucned that they will be holding a very special event next month. The September 18 Super Late Model event at the track will be titled the George Elliott Memorial 100 Presented By Monolith Companies. The event - which was suggested by Russ Sutton of Monolith - will honor Elliott, who helped countless racers with their careers throughout his 40-year racing career.
Elliott, a lifelong Dawsonville, GA resident who passed away in 1998, is also the father of NASCAR racing greats Bill, Ernie and Dan Elliott. For more on this event, go

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on Sept. 11 in memory of Joe Lee Johnson (1929-2005), on Sept. 12 to Ken Ragan and on Sept. 16 to Gary Balough.
