I had a very, very memorable one back about two years ago that I'd like to tell you all about this week over at Georgia Racing History.com.
Back in July of 2008, the folks over at what was then called Peach State Speedway (now known as Gresham Motorsports Park) were preparing for a big July 4th show, and decided to hold a media day as part of the lead up. Now, as part of the media day, they took media members for rides around the high-banked half mile in Vince Whitmire's two-seated "ride along" car. Now, who do you think was the first one to volunteer to go for a ride? For more on the story, head on over to

And speaking of GMP, if you missed Sunday's World Crown 300, you missed a heck of a show! It started with a bang (a 12-car pile up on lap 8 that eliminated several favorites), and ended with a show down between two Georgia aces that was eventually won by Woodstock's Justin Wakefield, driving a lookalike to Jody Ridley's cars from the past. In fact, for several laps early on, it looked like the old days between Ridley and Ronnie Sanders as Wakefield paired off against Bubba Pollard, who was piloting Sanders'
#18.
Wakefield's win meant that the lock the Georgia Gang has held on victory lane in the World Crown, dating back to Micky Cain's win in 2000, stays intact for another year.
Congrats to Wakefield and his team, and thanks to Dan Elliott and all the folks at Gresham Motorsports Park for another terrific page of Georgia Racing History!
Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on Nov. 17 in memory of Mike Swims (1964-2007).
Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
