A Hero For Today A poem by John W Cain
A Hero For TodayHow much more can one man giveTo something so dear to his heartTo be the best and finish firstWas his goal right from the startA leader of the Alabama GangHe filled the record booksHe gave his all to be the bestBecause that's what it tookWith 84 Winston Cup VictoriesAnd the "83" Winston Cup3 Daytona 500'sIt seemed there was no way but upNascar's four years most popular driverAnd 57 Winston polesThen in Pocono in "88"Tradgedy took its tollHe fought back hard to stay aliveA battle he bravely wonBut the racing torch must now be passedOn down to both his sonsAn though each one, one day becameA champion in his own wayThey both made their father proudBefore they went awayTo look at him and just to seeA smile upon his faceIs just a simple picture ofGod's sufficient graceBobby Allison is a true heroThe kind we need todayHe's given more to racingThan anyone can sayAdversity is an obstacle on the course to becoming strong, but it makes straight the way to patience and humbleness. All qualities of the great man, BOBBY ALLISON
GREAT poem! Bobby Allison will always be my hero! he has paid his dues and then some. He was always at Beltsville Md.at times and always had time for his fans!
