Soap Net Southern 500

Lately this season of NASCAR is beginning to resemble an episode of Days of Our Lives with many storylines. Showtime may have sponsored this race, but Soap Net could have really been a suitable sponsor. All this week all we heard was the drama and fued between Ryan Newman and Juan Pablo Montoya. Did they patch things up? Did NASCAR do something? Were punches really thrown in the NASCAR Hauler? We really did not know the answer as neither one of them admitted anything. But we were left thinking those differences were patched up. Meanwhile Montoya still proceeded to hit others on the track. Did Montoya learn his lesson? Will Montoya continue to hit everything but the pace car? Or will he wise up and be more focused?

There was the drama between Kurt Busch and Penske when he went through an angry profanity laced rant on the radio. Busch basically threw his crew and team under the bus. But we are lead to believe that because of Kurt's rant that things were changed with the team. I want to believe that but Kurt struggled tonight. Did his team punish him? Will we see more bad blood from his crew for that? Could this have burned Kurt's bridges with Penske? Guess we shall tune in next week

The Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick fued continues too. The two played bumper tag and one went into the wall. It did not end after the race too. Similar to a scene from the popular show Madhouse, Harvick proceeded to get out of his car to take a shot at Kyle Busch and his car crashed yet again when it was pushed into the wall by Busch. The two wasted no time and went to the NASCAR hauler after that. Kyle came out smiling and said being in the NASCAR hauler was "Good to hash it out now. Might as well." Harvick when asked just said, doing what we had to do there at the end and things happen. when asked was it over, he just said, "you saw the end." Again the drama continues and we are all left scratching our heads wondering, now what? Was anything resolved? Who will be fined? Guess we will have to wait till Dover.

In another continued theme, while all this is going on, an unknown or underfunded team wins a race, again!! Trevor Bayne won his first ever race and it happened to be the Daytona 500 this year. Tonight Upstate New Yorker Regan Smith wins the Southern 500 in a car with a team based in Colorado. The underdogs and underfunded teams once again prevail. Was this win a sign of things to come or was it a fluke? We shall see next week.

I know NASCAR is not staged or fake. But I am beginning to wonder about the things that have happened. Yes last year NASCAR said, "have at it" and perhaps this could all be part of that. I have noticed how when the drivers get out of the NASCAR hauler after some fight they don't seem to go too much into what was said in there or what happened in there. The same excuse is "Private matter" which seems to create more controversy. Is this NASCAR's strategy to get some interest in the sport again? I am beginning to think so. Could NASCAR be doing some things involving controversies by putting more fuel on the fire? Yes, I suspect it. I am sure what was said in the NASCAR hauler between Harvick and Busch went something like this...

Helton: Ok guys I know you hate each other. You know I am going to have to probably fine one of you guys. You heard of Japanese inspection?

Harvick: Here we go again, we both know what that is. Thats old. So is Kyle hitting everything and its annoying. You won't fine me

Busch: I did nothing wrong you cannot fine me

Harvick: YEAH YOU DID. YOU SPUN ME OUT AFTER THE BIG WRECK!!

Busch: I GAVE YOU ROOM

Harvick: So did I but you got me loose

Busch: THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!! You spun me out at Homestead intentionally last year and your wife is annoying me(throws M&Ms at Harvick)

Harvick: (Raises fist) DON'T TALK ABOUT MY WIFE LIKE THAT!! (Throws Coca Cola bottle at Busch)

Helton: Alright guys break it up. I will decide whos at fault and who I will fine later this week, but guys, I got to say. YOU PUT ON A GREAT SHOW!!! KEEP THIS KIND OF RIVALRY UP! I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THIS! ITS GONNA GET PEOPLE TALKING AND ITS GONNA SELL TICKETS! Don't say anything about this meeting. Say very little to the press. We need them to capitalize on this. Now shake hands and appologize.

Harvick: Sorry

Busch: (sighs) Sorry.

Helton: Alright now Harvick remember to put your car in park after a race and Kyle be respectful of other racers wives. See you two Monday in my office.

Christopher, if you had been writing for the day time soaps on TV, they wouldn't all be going off the air. That is a great storyline. Only one possible error I see. Harvick is likely to have thrown a Bud bottle at Candy man rather than a Coke bottle. Good blog!Tim
