I have never figured where Joe Henry earned enough points to take the 1968 national title. He only finished 6th in his home state of Virginia and doesn't appear in the top-20 in NC, TN, MD or SC. When Joe would run at Richmond on Friday nights, he was only a 6th to 10th place runner behind the 4-H Boys- Runt Harris, Ray Hendrick and Ted Hairfield - as well as drivers such as Eddie Royster, Al Grinnan, Lennie Pond, Jimmy Hensley and others. Ah, the mysteries of double point races and national points races back in the days. Those NASCAR titles were often meaningless... just meant you traveled a lot and raced in places where you had no competition.
