Ralph Earnhardt raced for a living in the old Limited Sportsman and Late Model Sportsman days. He raced 5 - 6 days per week and had five cars in his shop at his home in Kannapolis, N. C. After a race, he would tow the car home and would get a couple of hours sleep and then he would fine tune the car he had driven the night before. Then he would load up another car, which was tuned after a race the week before and would hit the road for another night of racing. One season, he was a regular competitor at a race track that had been used the previous year as a minor league baseball field.
