Above is the payoff sheet for a NASCAR sanctioned Limited Sportsman racing program at Gamecock Raceway (Now Sumter Speedway) for 1960. Mind you, there was only one division back then and the program consisted of two 10-lap heat races, a 15-lap consi and a 35-lap main event. Ralph Earnhardt finished third in the first heat race, which earned him $4. He went on to win the main event, which paid $115 for a total of $119 for the night. Gerald Best made the main event by winning the consi ($10) and finished behind Earnhardt and collected an additional $75. Rock Raines, who passed away last week pocketed $8 by winning the second heat and finished third in the main event, which paid $65. The total purse was $480.
