Looking for Info on 1960 Southern 500
Hi all,I'm looking for some additional info about the 1960 Southern 500 at Darlington, as part of a book I'm working on. Paul Lewis told me that he was at the center of a near-boycott by independent drivers in the days leading up to the Labor Day race.I've never seen or read anything else about that. I'm looking for someone else who was present and remembers the events of that weekend. I asked Rex White about it earlier this year, but he didn't remember.I know Johnny Allen, David Pearson and Buddy Baker were in the field that day. So was Richard, but he wasn't among the independent crowd that Lewis ran with.Paul's story is fascinating and I'd love to have a second source to further verify it.And for all the racers in East Tennessee that I've already interviewed, neither I nor the project has died. It hopelfully is getting back on track - finally.Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance,David
Good to hear from you, David. Hope all is well. I'll see if I can dig something up for you.Jeff
Check with Neil Castles in Charlotte NC. If it was going on then ol' Soap would have known about it and a better guy to tell a story you'll never find.
I did a story on that boycott a few years ago. Let me see if I can dig it up for you, Dave.
You can find the full finishing order of any race at Racing-Reference.com. All driver and track facts also.
