Coming Up on Our Four Year Anniversary

Stock Car Racing History

I'm very grateful to and proud of all the contributors to our sites and radio programs. All you wonderful folks have created something that I think will be a very important part of racing history for years to come. We share an unbiased look into history with our readers and listeners form many different angles and perspectives...from car owners, drivers, crew, family, photographers, PR, media, journalism, and fans. And thanks to our contributors, we have accumulated tens of thousands of pictures, videos, and blogs. We're coming upon our 4 year anniversary (as RacersReunion.com) this January and the growth here has been awesome to watch.

We learned in the first year... that with an infusion of advertising dollars we could grow RR into a large racing site very quickly. We also learned that much of the traffic that came from those ad dollars were not folks we had hoped to target. So, we discontinued advertising after 3 months. Those who were here in the beginning will remember how different the site became. We then realized it would be the members who would dictate what the site became.

I'm glad we sacrificed rapid growth for for this kind of quality content. Now, the folks who find us are looking for all the stuff we represent. This IS certainly the vision that Paul Lewis and I shared. We have in his words "Taken Racers Reunion to the other side of the mountain" from its early beginnings (started by Mr. Paul Lewis) in Johnson City, TN over 20 years ago.

Paul's vision was and is to ensure folks remember all the contributors, not just those who made the most headlines. Just think about all the drivers and racetrack history we have brought to the surface here in only 4 years.

Thanks to all of you!!

Hot Rod Elvis

General

He arrived here, just fine, JB. He came over to the house and we ate chicken bogg on the back porch. Hat some spot fish and biscuits, too.

Hot Rod Elvis

I think Elvis would be very proud of his (this) namesake. I'm very proud of our Hot Rod Elvis.

By the way, Elvis now frequents many spots here at the beach (in addition to K-Mart). I recently had a beer with him while we listened to others impersonate him on stage. He was proud.

YOUR pick for Most Popular Driver?

General

When you consider the lines at the souvenir haulers, its hard to argue with the Jr result. But he is not my favorite. Mine is Tony Stewart. I've not always liked his attitude, but love the way he races. I also like the fact that he can drive anything, he's rough around the edges, and that he doesn't look like a freakin sports model. He's a cheesburger eatin, beer drinkin, racer. I can identify with that.

Kudos for Penske! Kurt Busch out at Penske Racing

Administrative

BT, my Mom used to make me go cut the switch for her. After my Dad started letting me carry a pocket knife, I learned how to cut "relief" rings on the switch in strategic locations. Worked a few times...then she stopped making me go cut them. But she didn't stop using them...and that's why I never acted like a Busch.

For the second time in his Sprint Cup Series career, an off-track issue has cost Kurt Busch his job.

Busch will not return next season to drive Penske Racing's No. 22 Dodge, multiple sources confirmed to the Observer on Sunday night.

An official announcement of Busch's departure from the organization is expected today from Penske.

Just over a week ago NASCAR fined Busch $50,000 for the use of an obscene gesture and a profanity-laced tirade directed toward a media member during the Cup series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The incident with ESPN reporter Dr. Jerry Punch, which took place in the garage after Busch's car broke its transmission, was caught on video and posted on YouTube.

At the time, Penske Racing officials issued a statement saying they were reviewing the matter internally.

Asked if he could confirm Busch as the driver of the No. 22 team in 2012, Penske spokesman Jonathan Gibson referred to its previous statement and said the organization would have no further comment at this time.

In November 2005, less than one year after winning his first Cup series championship, Busch was fired by Roush Fenway Racing after he was cited for criminal recklessness in Avondale, Ariz., in what police described as an alcohol-related incident.

Busch sat out the remaining two races of the 2005 season. He began driving for team owner Roger Penske in the 2006 season.

Since joining Penske, Busch has won 10 races and his highest finish in the series standings was fourth in 2009.

This decision comes very late in the year and puts both Busch and Penske in a difficult position.

There are no quality rides currently available for next season for Busch to pursue, and no drivers with a resume on the track similar to Busch's available for Penske to hire.

Several drivers who competed in the Cup series this season remain without rides, including David Ragan, Brian Vickers and David Reutimann.
