It has been a very busy week. Moving the radio studio is no small task. But it is up and running in our new location....ready for our weekly radio line-up beginning Monday night with STARS Radio at 6 PM, Motor Week LIVE! at 7 PM and Racin & Rockin With Draglist.com at 8 PM. Then the Goat Rodeo (aka Racing Through History) airs at 7 on Tuesday...and The Wally Bell Show at 8 on Wednesday.
Here is a snap shot of the new set up. Many thanks to Big D!
We are "officially" in the Nexus Fuel Products Studio now. Gotta get those Nexus guys to get us some signage.
Something I've noticed over the past years....once a driver / player receives a concussion, they seem to be more prone to them. With soft walls and all the driver cocoon improvements to help absord the impact....better helmets, impact absorbing foam around the helmt...etc..there seem to be fewer. But ther is still nothing that completely offset the effect of ones brain slamming against the skull from an impact.
Anyone strapping themselves into any kind of race car should get a thorough evaluation of their cocoon design from a restraint engineer...such as Trevor Ashline of Simpson Racing (formerly Safety solutions). Trevor has done extensive testing (from Dale Earnhardt Sr. crash...and more) and can offer advice on simple things like proper seat bel;t mounting to placement and type of energy absorbing foam for the upper part of the seat (around the helmet)...to proper head and bneck restraint systems.
Many drivers do not take this as seriously as they should. I have a video of some of Trevor's testing (availabel at Simpson) showing what can happen at speeds as low as 60mph. Pretty scary!
Click the radio "Listen" button at the top of this page. At the time of this post 1:12 PM Eastern...Drag list is playing. Here is the loop rotation:
STARS Radio
Motor Week LIVE!
Racin and Rockin With Draglist.com
Racing Through History
The Wally Bell Show
So at this time you are a little over tow hours away.
Will do...it is playing in the 24 / 7 rotation on the radio now through Monday.
Had a discussion with some friends at breakfast Friday morning and this came up...just curious...and due to CRS can't remember the details.
I remember some info from previous radio interviews (can't remember who was telling this) about how far ahead of the curve Bill Jenkins was with the small block chevy. One discussion was that he began changing the firing order to better cool adjacent cylinders well before anyone else thought of such things.
My question is this is this...which firing order swap was he using?. I'm assuming he changed the 5,7 order since they are adjacent...at the rear of the engine...and together in the stock firing order. Is this correct? What was the resultant swap?...is this the 4/7 swap that is fairly common now in camshaft grinding? What is the resultant firing order?
Thanks!
Great read, JB! Would you considerwritingsomeof this stuff for our home page? Wedesperatelyneed some Drag Racing entries.
Yes, Jarrett's was one of the best I've ever seen. One of the best misses ever (didn't see it...heard about it) was when Barry Dodson (working for Petty) slung a screw driver at David Pearson. According to David in a recent interview on our show that included him and Barry...he said to Barry "It's a damn good thing you missed!".
