Pretty neat how cars with such stark differences were able to run together on the same track like this. Also odd that Ron Keselowski, Elmo Langley, and Walter Ballard were the only drivers running '71 GN cars with Wayne Andrews, Buck Baker, and H.B. Bailey being the only '71 GA cars. Was the '71 GN Plymouth a turd and hence why Richard is in a '70? Or did they already know about the schedule crunch coming in '72 and decided it wasn't worth the cost of a new car?

The best part of this story happens on August 28 and November, both in 1971.

NASCAR decided somewhere along the line that Tiny Lund's wins in the combos count.

Bobby Allison's still doesn't count.

Not to nitpick, but Studebaker actually won 3 races in 1951, two with Frank Mundy, including the Columbia race, and one with Danny Weinberg out West.

I understand your point about the racing books. Some will present a person as a saint or demon, yet suddenly things are very different when you ask the people that really knew him.

To clarify: it's not the concussion I am doubting; it is the choice of Jeff Gordon as next week is Indianapolis that I am questioning. More likely than not NASCAR's neurologists don't clear Junior to race at Indy.

I understand Dale's position better. He saw what happened to Neil Bonnett and Bobby Allison; he knows that it's not all fun and games for him anymore.

What NASCAR should be doing is promoting the heck out of Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, and others the way they did Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, etc.

NASCAR was somehow involved in this knowing the driver and track involved and there is a certain racing series that is seeing the highest ratings downward spiral since Rhoda got divorced.

All the things you speak of typically happen on the east loop. I-77 is horrible through and through. Dave, is I-77 still two lanes in Iredell County?

Either way, it's a children's game compared to I-95 in J'Ville or south of West Palm!
