That Didn't Last Long

Current NASCAR

......... Jeremy Mayfield should have just went through the NASCAR 'reinstatement process' . It'd sure made his life a lot easier. There's been multiple ejections since Mayfield, including non-approved substance use, and "manipulating the outcome of an event" ... all but Jeremy, are back in the fold.

NASCAR looking to make winning a necessity with eliminations in Chase and winner-takes-all finale

Current NASCAR

I'm encouraged, winning, and racing for wins during the season, will generate more interest. It's been totally arbitrary for all of these 60-some years that "consistency" was the greater value. But, champions could have been determined by the number of wins, etc. etc. There's nothing holy, or set-in-stone about consistency. I'd have to applaud the thinking behind this idea.

What's for Christmas Dinner in Shallotte, Bopper?

General

Dave, the late Paul Jennewein would often include the story of the Christmas Flounder in his Sunday Star Newscolumn at this time of year. I can't personally authenticate the flounder story, but, until the post WWII era and the advent of tourism, southeastern NC was very poor. The Great Depression sure didn't help, either. In Shallotte and Brunswick county, oysters were once a major focus of Christmas dinners for the same reason as the Christmas flounder. But times have changed, and now a coastal Christmas dinner is pretty much like one anywhere else.

How long will it take?

Current NASCAR

Agreed, I've always suspected NASCAR juggled the deck to accomplish the objective of the moment, and they've laughed all the way to the bank. The guard is changing, we can see the new players: Kyle Larson, Chase Elliot, Jeb Burton, Ryan Blaney, and the Dillon brothers, to name the more visible. Austin and the 3 could win any of the plate tracks this year.........as could anyone else in the starting field. It's all the other tracks, that'll be the problem. But a more complicated question: How has NASCAR kept a lid on these "special weapons and tactics" missions for 60 some years? The racing grapevine has never failed to rat-out a story. Hats off to NASCAR for keeping all this under wraps.
