Got a Vintage car and looking for a track to race at?

General

Johnny Mallonee said:
you know there are only so many vintage cars out there------------------a n d -----------------there are only so many tracks out there, if the demand exceeds the supply does that mean you are a commodity in demand?? does that mean there could be show money??? A thought, a very good thought, you fill up a 16 gallon tank at 3 bucks or better and a toter with 25 gallons at $2.59 you have spent over $112.00 and are you even at the track yet?? Not griping just showing where a little tow money just may get you 30 cars instead of 12 cars. It is something I am going to look at when we start dragging to the track. You are going to lay over to come home so thats another factor.
When we put the boat in to go out its $200 bucks or better to do this, you see having fun does have a pricetag on it in todays world so do i go fishing or do i go racing? Entertain me with a thought on this
Johnny,Those are all excellent points, and that is the role of the sponsors in our group, the "Bell and Bell Vintage Modified Series". Sponsorship funds are being equally distributed to participants to help off set participation expenses. Our goal is to make it affordable and attractive to participate in our events, granted, we have not met our final goal, but we have also just begun. Our series is a work in progress and is only one year old. One absolute marketing strategy is your opening statement......."there are only so many vintage race cars........" if a promoter is intersted in adding a vintage event, the possibilities are limited, they don't grow on trees, that fact is source of strength for the vintage community.

Pearson says Parks should be next in the HOF

General

That's really impressive on David's part, and I couldn't agree more, but it's tough to predict the mind-set of the NASCAR HOF crowd. Hopefully they'll make the right decision, and induct both.

Stock Island Speedway Florida

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

Johnny, funny you mention this track. My hometown, Shallotte, NC, has always had an association of sorts with Key West through the shrimping community. Shrimpers from Shallotte would often spend parts of the year in Key West. Back in the 1960's there was one of these Key West-Shallotte families and while they were in Shallotte, one year, they described a race track in or near Key West. With space being what it is, in the Keys, this always seem odd.....but I'm glad to know the stories were true. Sound's like a ghost track in the making........!!

Saturday Night NASCAR

General

It's Mother's Day, and as all race fans surely know by now.............that means ONE thing!! THE SOUTHERN 500 (on Saturday night, on what NASCAR once thought the most likely-to-fail-date since theslow exectuion of Rockingham).Yup, that's Riiiiight.........it's the "new" Sourthern 500,

Gentlemen, start your older-than-dirtstories of the minnow-pond.

But, why do some short tracks close on this weekend and usually on the Bristol weekend? And, interestingly, most of the tracks that close are asphalt. What's that all about? Do they feel some sort of obligation to support the Frances? If the local track bucks the trend and RACES against NASCAR, the fans may be sparse onthose 'Cup Saturday nights, butbyclosing, the fan count is a guaranteed ZERO. Local tracks a'int the pinnacle of prosperity, anyway. Closing a'int helping nothing. Fans once were seamless, but the dirt community is a different breed than ther distantly-related pavement brethren. The dirt community has long since moved on from NASCAR, and a'int really in to Jimmy and Jeffy and JUNIOR.What a blessing in times like these.

Anyway, (dirt)Carolina Speedway in LakeView, SC is racing this Saturday night. LakeView is 41 miles from Darlington.

Jeff, Dirt and Stock Racers Reunion could be combined. Don't see any problem.
