GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE THAT wait or get better!!!

Vintage Oval and Road Course Racing

Today I took my trophy to work to show my friends, walking in the break room I said "Who'd da man now!!??" Every Monday after a race my co-workers ask "Well, did you win?" And the answer was always the same, not today but, today I came home with the checkers.

Wow! You're comments and congratulations mean a lot to me, I mean that. I have know many of you for a number of years now and you know the hurtles I've overcome in racing but, it's only made me a better owner, mechanic, engineer, and with all those hurtles I've learned a lot about racing and how to drive, when to go high and when to stay low. This past Saturday nights racing was the biggest hurtle to date, racing against my long time rival on the track, "Wild Bill" Tripp of Shallotte, NC. Tripp and his #21 Chevy didn't make it easy on me either, getting under me on the first lap, showing me that he ain't about to roll over. We raced nosed to tail for a number of laps, Bill running low and I taking the high grove until I finally caught a break and Bill left a hole coming through turns 1& 2. I put my foot in it and pulled out of two with the lead but multiple cautions kept giving #21 more chances to overtake the #45 in the finally laps. With a Bruce James Racing V8 blocking my lane I had to rely on protecting the low line where I could see Wild Bill's white steel bumper lurking a couple of car lengths behind. A final caution put the race over it's time limit and the green/yellow caution light came on just as I got a nose up under the Bruce James V8 center of the front stretch. I had just WON THE RACE!!! Pulling in the pits I was met by my long time racing buddy Bobby Williamson who literally met me at the entrance to pits, congratulating me and pointing to the victory circle, a place I had never paid attention to before. Passing the pit tower I looked up and saw my pit crew waving the thumbs up and I returned a fist pumping gesture only a race fan would recognize. Rounding the tower were my friends and competitors waiting to congratulate me, Pete, Sherman, Jack, Brad, a few more that I can't recall in all the excitement. I did it, I finally got my first win. What a rush of excitement and adrenaline, I finally got to hold the checkered flag and a really awesome trophy and get my picture taken.

Thank you all for the congratulations.

Went to a Fight and a Race Broke Out!

Stock Car Racing History

Dublin Motorspeedway, Dublin, N.C.Funniest fight I ever saw

Two middle-aged fathers watching their sons battle lap after lap, beatin' and bangin' and rubbin' each other raw until they finally collected each other in a front stretch racing mishap. This is when the fathers commenced to trash talking each other until....it started in a finger pointing, leading to a shirt grabbing, which lead to a shirt pulling until both Dad's were going round and round like a figure skating duet and then, both lost their balance and equallibrium when centrifrical force pulled them apart and they both bit the dust on their butts. Funnies fight I ever saw!!!

For all you Kart racing fans

General

Wow, Liberty was the last place my son raced in the purple plate class in a State Championship race. Country came to Town when we showed up in our non-sponsored 10 year old kart. My son Alex qualified 8th of 18 karts, less than 1/10 of second off the pole. He was running in 5th when a young rambunctious kid drove him into turn 3 and he shot up the track and into the barrels and hit his head and shoulder on a fence post outside the grid, sending barrels and dirt flying over the fence onto the karters waiting in the grid. That was the last time we raced anywhere, sold everything and bought a vintage stock car. The rest is history.

I Enjoyed Indy More than Charlotte

The Indianapolis 500 is a must see, it's the Grand Daddy of racing. I would have liked to see a green flag finish though.

R.I.P. 12-Year Old Tyler Morr - Succumbed this p.m. from Florida Kids Club Race Crash Injuries

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

I wouldn't even want to race against a kid that age and I'm sure that's the sentiment of most of the drivers that do, I'd bet they feel a little nervous around the kid, I know I would. Again, the good ol boy system is favoring those parents.

Robbie, I tend to agree with you, there should be an age limit on driving a race car and 12 IS NOT IT!!! I would have never put my son in a car at that age and I've seen kids in cars that could barely see over the steering wheel, not a good move on the parents part. Bottom line is there needs to be more restrictions and closer safety inspections by the track officials, this ain't a "Good ol' boy" system, not when it comes to children. You look all amusement parks, you have to be a certain height to even get on some rides.

In defense of the writer's choice of words, I commend him for not over dramatizing the crash, he put it as simple and honestly as a reporter could. In defense of the track, concrete walls are the way it is at local tracks, they all have one, there is no alternative for local tracks. I'm sure the family of Tyler is absolutely devastated knowing that their son died in a car they built but, that is ultimate risk of racing at any level, in any motorized sport. It's a terrible tragedy. Peace and comfort to all.
