LET ME TRY THIS AND SEE IF IT FLYS
Stock Car Racing History
It's about time
Yes Tommie, the other auto racing clubs would definitely be on the front lines to prevent law makers from banning auto racing. I have already received flak about contributing to the green house effect though the people that point fingers drive an automobile and own and operate other gas run machinery. There are many in society that loathe auto racing and people that support it and it wouldn't surprise me one bit to one day hear of a Bill to ban auto racing, or racing of any motorized vehicle. I make s me wonder why NASCAR has used all electric pace cars? Is this the writing the wall?
Lately there's been a lot of talk going around about "Going Green" and "Green House Gases" also, with the latest tragedy in Colorado, there's a renewed push to ban guns altogether, however, for stricter gun control the NRA is the law makers biggest road block. For the environmentalists that would just as soon ban auto racing, NASCAR could be our biggest asset which, many claim as auto racing to be an unnecessary contributor to the greenhouse gas effect. As dissatisfied as fans are with the direction NASCAR is going, they (NASCAR) could be the entity that stops the outlaw of auto racing.
What are your thoughts about this?
I've thought about it but didn't quite dissect but, often wondered what ever happen to lap 3?
Dave, I don't recall ever seeing that one, I've seen most all of the Ertl co. and Gay Toys from Wall, Mi. (no pun intended) plastic stock cars but that one is quite rare, might fetch $30-40 on ebay.
Jeff, you don't know how bad I wanted to be there, had to really put on the "happy face" as to not give away my frustration of missing the biggest race of the year. However, it looks like the new kid on the block, Joey Babson has turned the Tennessee Skeeter into one potent machine, he would have been hard to beat.
Very cool Jeff, thanks for posting
Excellent topic Johnny Mac. I've often thought of the joys of being at the track with the sights, the sounds, the smells (much like you've stated). But let me add a few more...The track has a carnival atmosphere about it, there is activity going on around every trailer, folks discussing setup, gossiping about fellow drivers, kids peeping in and out of grown up conversations, hotdogs and cups of coke, these are the things that make the track so fascinating. These are good folks, tough folks, with one thing in mind, "How can I get more speed and handling out of my race car?"
I've always said "Racing is my therapy." It's my fishing trip, my day at the beach, it's my escape from the day to day drama from the world outside that clay oval.
Thanks Jeff, you know all to well the feeling of a win. What was your nickname?
Johnny, the victory circle photos might be posted on the Carolina Speedway website but, I'll pick up the copies next time I go.
PS. That video captured the one and only time I spun myself out and it happened to be caught on video by my old army buddy Big Bad Johnny Stone, the same guy that picked my car up from Ohio and delivered it to my house in NC.
Also, to Johnny Mac, I like that nickname Cape Fear Flash. Now that I won a race can I use it?
