SOUTH BOSTON GT 100 Aug. 2,1969

Stock Car Racing History

Great find Dave. I've not seen this one before. My guess would be this is from the 1970 Citrus 250 as the #26 Camaro in the background was Richard Childress and the cars have no head lights. Richard ran #41 at Daytona in '69 and the July Paul Revere race was at night.

NASCAR Came to Pocono 40 years Ago Monday; Petty Won on Tricky Triangle Before NASCAR

Stock Car Racing History

Dave,

A couple of Grand American cars made the trip to Pocono in 1971 for the USAC Pennsylvania 500 won by Butch Hartman in a '69 Dodge Daytona. Jim Paschal drove a '70 Javelin and Wayne Andrews drove Reid Shaw's '71 Mustang. Paschal lost oil pressure after 97 laps and Wayne dropped a valve two laps later.

The reason this race sticks out in my mind is that there was a Nascar race rained out while they were at Pocono and when dad tried to enter the race on the rain date Nascar would not let him run because he went to Pocono.

Bristol 300 7/20/1968

Stock Car Racing History

Chase, The result I had from Ultimate racing history actually did not list a number or type of car for Arnet Awtry for the Bristol race. I inserted the #39 Camaro because that is the car he drove at Daytona and would later drive at Atlanta, my assumption being he drove the same car here. Looks like I may have been wrong. Now what is it that old saying makes me for assuming? Anyway, what I really love about this picture is the diversity of the cars back them. You just did not see many Baracuda or Dart stock cars.
