Hey, A top 5 for '62 ROTY Thomas Cox in an old Petty Plymouth.

Like Johnny, I could get closer than that on my weights in the shop behind the house. Would like to know what they were trying on the crankshaft counterweights, Wally is right, those TRD boys are no dummies.
Bet the penalties are in light of the Penske deal.
Tim, The '64 Ford driven to a 9th place finish by Buren Skeen was owned by Reid Shaw of Asheboro, NC. They would get their best finish of the year at Bowman-Gray with a 5th place. Reid would take the remains of the car from Darlington and bury it on his Randolph county farm. The next year Reid fielded cars for Johnny Allen, Cale Yarborough, Bryant Wallace and Darel Dieringer with Darel taking the win at Starlite Speedway in Monroe. Reid also owned the Cougars and a Mustang that Dad drove in the GT and GA divisions from '69 to '71.
This article I found tells more about the wreck that involved Buck Baker.
Tim, I think the Plymouth Thomas Cox drove was an old Petty car. 1960 model that was ran several years later (1965) at the Rockingham Speedway dirt track by Norman "Fat" Cox.
A Fiat in Nascar? No way! Oh wait, I said the same about Toyota.
One sweet ride!
It really looked good on the track, and the set up must have been good as he steadily worked his way thru the field. Sorry to see him have engine trouble.
The old cars that have run at the Rock in that group has been great. A '64 Chevelle ran 3rd.
It took me back to Grand American days, would love to see more race cars like this.
Dave,
I had seen the story you posted that said the Pete Hamilton Camaro was an x Smokey car and had assumed that the picture above was the same car but after reading the story Chase posted you can't tell which of the 2 Smokey cars it was. Did not know until now there were 2 Camaros.
I have also read that the #55 Ronnie Hopkins Camaro that Tiny drove in 1970 was the x Gene White #25 Camaro with later model sheet metal. After reading that the White crew built another Camaro for GA and a Trans Am Camaro. I could only guess which one of those cars ended up at Hopkins shop.
I'm pretty sure dad was in a '68 Cougar in the '69 So. Bo. race.
It was a good race Johnny, I enjoyed it. I really like that race track and the attendance was good too. I was worried a little about that before I got there on Saturday, then I knew it would be a good crowd on Sunday. Maybe not quite as good as last year but a really good number of people for a truck race. Hope you don't think it too forward of me to point out it is Thunder Alley painted on the backstretch wall.
Indeed it was Mausgrovers car William. I did not remember it, Mike Powell told me who it was. Those who made the races on Saturday got a chance to see the car up close and meet some of the crew. Tex Powell and Les Barzs were there talking to the fans, they were on Benny's crew in '73. Tex, Les and Richie Barzs were also the ones who restored the Chevelle. Original car restored by the original crew 40 years later. Hows that for racing history.
