I Visited the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Today....

Stock Car Racing History

Yup, just one day after Jack Walker visited me at our museum (Georgia Racing Hall of Fame), I headed over to Talladega, first to take the track tour (That's one big son-uv-a-gun!) then we spent about 2 1/2 or so hours at the museum. I very much enjoyed it. The friend I was with said that they didn't have as much old cars from than they did from 5 years ago. They had 1 40' Merc race car, a 41 Ford Street Rod, and a 48 Plymouth show car. But other than that, I loved every minute of it. It was very well laid out, and we only saw maybe one other person, so we had the place to ourselves!!!! I've only been home a few hours, but I'm ready to go back!

Since I took over 100 pictures......I'll just post pictures of my favorite cars/exhibits....unless someone wants to see more.

Enjoy my somewhat fuzzy pictures!

This was also one of the last Magnum's driven by Richard Petty before switching to GM. According to the sign, in mid 78', it was sold by PE to Winston, where they made it a show car.

This is for you Tim Leeming!!! Even though it was one of Waltrip's cars....I have always kind of liked this paint scheme, especially with those chrome wheels before they were outlawed in 87'.

I know you can't really read it...but it says "Joe Lee Johnson - World 600 Winner-1960" It must have just came in as it was sitting on the front desk counter.

And lastly.....even though I am strongly a Ford guy, I just love the mid 80's GM aero cars....Monte Carlo's, Grand Nationals....especially these 2+2's. This one was sitting under the 'courtyard'

Hope ya'll enjoyed my 'virtual tour'

Tobacco, Cigarettes and Racing - Some Fascinating Reading

Stock Car Racing History

It twas a good article Dave. And even though I don't smoke, and think it's bad, Winston was the reason that Nascar was so popular....it's really gone to the dumpster since they got out of it. Why did Winston leave anyway? Did the supreme court finally rule against them, or not making money anymore....or what?

What's in a Picture

Stock Car Racing History

Dang what a mix.....I see everything from what looks like a 36' Ford, to a 52-54 Ford, to a 55 Buick, 55 Ford, 56 Stude and a 56 Chevy for good measure! No wait....I think I even see a 49 Olds too!

Is This Bobby Allison @ Ascot?

Stock Car Racing History

What do you "made to look like Harry Gant"? Stan Barrett WAS the original Skoal Bandit driver for a handful of races in 22, until Harry Gant joined the second car, 33, after Atlanta.

A True Goat Rodeo Happened at Darlington in 1960

Stock Car Racing History

As I was browsing on youtube today, I found this short clip of Johnny Allen going through the guardrail and crashing into the scoring tower!!! However, nobody was injured, but they (Darlington) probably had to buy them all some new pants!!

Can you imagine the scorer for Johnny Allen trying to find his car on the track then all of a sudden, the stands your in crashes, you look down and it's your car?? lol

A special message to REX WHITE

Stock Car Racing History

Thanks. I think he's around 95 or 96. Him and Raymond Parks were real close in age. Raymond would have been 98 this year.

Buy Junior Johnson's Farm

General

Well.....RR is just full of good, and kind people....so big as Junior's house is, you could probably have several groups in there at one time...
