Haven't seen Len Sammons' annual show listed in the event schedule, but Motorsports 2012 is scheduled January 20-22 at The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA. Len, you may know, is the publisher of Area Auto Racing News since 1962 and in my experience of attending racing and trade shows, we always ranked this show at the top of our list as the BEST. He'll have Cup drivers and crew chiefs as well as drag racing stars and dozens of weekly track legends. When I worked at Richmond, this was the one "Must Attend" and "Must Display" show on our calendar.

Ironic that three years later Cale's 1965 Southern 500 "adventure" became a permanent part of the "Agony of Defeat" opening of Wide World of Sports. Thanks for posting this great old stuff.
I always HATED Jim Mckay attempting to cover a NASCAR race with his Dick Petty and Dave Pearson junk. I am told that his ego knew no limits.
Listening to the Bobby Williamson's Ghost Track segment on Racer's Reunion Radio and mentions of the old Concord, NC track made me think how much I used to enjoy seeing the "GASCAR" sanctioning name in the racing papers, which was the Concord, NC promoter John Gaskey's name to irritate NASCAR. In looking up GASCAR and John Gaskey, I was directed right back to Stock Car Racers Reunion and a post by Billy & Barbara Scott with all sorts of neat stuff about Concord and Mr. Gaskey, including a poem written about him. Here is the very worthwhile link to what Billy & Barbara posted:

You'll see on the old Concord program cover posted by Billy & Barbara the "GASCAR" sanctioning name. I bet the Frances choked every time they saw it!
Thanks Jeff & Dustin for posting the new countdown to the Daytona 500 clock. I suspect my blood pressure will again rise when that clock reaches the single digits.
This has nothing to do with the car you own, but there's some pretty neat Les Snow stuff on the front page of the Feb. 10, 1967 Daytona paper when he and Neil Castles won ARCA qualifiers, including a photo of Les taking the checkers. Thought you might like to see the article. Here's the link:
