A NASCAR Wash or Fleece Today?

General

Straight from t he land of famous prisons (see Blues Brothers) and racetracks ( see Chicagoland) comes this piece of Joliet, Illinois business news... a chain of NASCAR Car Washes ! OMG, maybe if the King is quick on his feet, he can sign 'em on to replace Southern Pride Car Washes . The article got me to thinking about other possible NASCAR Franchise Opportunities. I think I'm gonna see if Marcos Ambrose would like to start a NASCAR sheep shearing franchise in his native Australia. I can see the ad campaign now.... "Come Get FLEECED by NASCAR!" What do you think?

NASCAR car wash making its national debut here this week

By Bob Okon September 13, 2011 7:27AM JOLIET Its not just a big NASCAR race week for the area. Its a big NASCAR car wash week. The first three NASCAR Car Wash operations in the country, including one in Romeoville, open this week in the Chicago region. And the groundbreaking for the first to be built from the ground up takes place Thursday in Joliet. The NASCAR Car Wash Company, licensed through NASCAR, hopes to leverage the popularity of the sport and appeal to racing fans. NASCAR is a ubiquitous name that everybody knows and has instant identity, said Dan Dyer, chairman and chief executive of the company. We think the name is significant. The company is starting with three car washes this week. Locations in Romeoville, Aurora and Matteson all will have grand openings Thursday. The Romeoville site is on Normantown Road near Weber Road. Like the other two, it has been converted from a pre-existing car wash to the NASCAR brand. Future locations in Joliet and Naperville are expected to open in early 2012. The Joliet car wash will be at Route 59 and Theodore Street. That groundbreaking occurs at 3 p.m. Thursday. Driver appearances NASCAR Car Washes arent designed to make your car go faster. But Dyer said the car washes can synchronize with NASCAR to offer fans some of the experience they get at the races. In Romeoville, drivers Trevor Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 winner, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the current NASCAR Nationwide Series point leader, will appear at the car wash from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday with Dyer and Blake Davidson, NASCARs vice president of licensing and consumer products. Dyer said the company can team up with NASCAR sponsors to offer coupons and other values on products to go with a car wash. Appealing to NASCAR fans brand loyalty will be a big part of the marketing strategy. The company plans to grow both by rebranding existing car washes and building its own. Dyer said there are now 12,000 tunnel-style car washes in the United States, and, Our goal is in 10 years to have 20 (percent) to 25 percent of that market. The Chicago region and beyond marks a big start for the company, which predicts it will have between 30 and 50 locations by 2016 in a region that includes Wisconsin, Illinois, upper Indiana and Michigan. The car washes will employ an average of 40 people per location.

OH, I went to their website and found their "Mission Statement." I was looking to see if it mentioned giving a good car wash. It did, after first promising to protect the NASCAR brand and several other things. Somehow, I knew giving a good car wash was not going to be the first priority of the mission statement.

MISSION STATEMENT

The NASCAR Car Wash Company has three key elements in its overall vision:

(1) Protect the NASCAR Brand

(2) Match capital alongside our Operating Partners

Assist expansion of their car wash business (when their bank said no we say YES!)
(3) Leverage the NASCAR Car Wash brand

Provide the best car wash experience to our customers
Expand the NASCAR fan base throughout our customer base
Present fantastic marketing initiatives so our customers are enjoying ancillary benefits that make their wash with us the best value in taking care of their cars.

Danica & the Pace Car Pass at Richmond

General

This is the pink pace car promoting American Cancer Society (also used at Atlanta) that Danica didn't see and passed at Richmond. Can we get a copy of the NASCAR vision test perhaps? .

QUOTE : "I didn't even see the pace car!" she said after the race. "The pace car must have been pretty low or going kind of slow or something. I remember accelerating down the front straight and thinking, 'Wow, we're really moving!' and I didn't even see the pace car."

OK, I guess as she says, the Camaro is pretty low, right? Andthe pace cardoes usually go kinda slow, right?

As you said PKL, fame is so fleeting. All 3 of the young ladies above raced in the July 10, 1949 Daytona Beach race. I do hope Danica makes it in NASCAR, but like you, I trust the media will refrain from calling her the First Lady. So many have passed before her (well, they weren't all ladies, lol.)

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but what do think of Danica saying she didn't see that bright pink pace car she passed Friday night at Richmond?

Tony Stewart Anger Management Index Chart for Reporters

Questions:

1) Are they still making Louisville Sluggers?

2) Are they still wood?

I've nevergotten used to a bat going "ping" as they seem to today. Never played with a metal bat.

In my treasured archives are two broken Louisville Sluggers I got at the ballpark in the late 50s in Richmond, Va. One belonged to outfielder Tom Tresh, the other to pitcher Mel Stottlemeyer, both playing at the time for the Richmond Virginians AAA club before making it to Yankee Stadium.

Kurt Busch Calls Johnson 5-Time Chump, Denies Remarks, Destroys Reporter's Notes at Richmond

General

I believe we've seen this out of the car type behavior before from Jack Roush's "favorite son." Seems to run in the family.

An excerpt from a longer piece recapping Saturday night's actions and "memory loss" by Kurt Busch at Richmond:

Losing so much of his cool could hurt Kurt Busch's drive
By Jenna Fryer - The Associated Press
Sunday, Sep. 11, 2011

RICHMOND, Va. Kurt, meanwhile, starts the Chase ranked seventh in the standings and nine points behind his little brother. But the prospect of him being able to win a second title seemed slim after yet another run-in with Jimmie Johnson proved Busch struggles to control his anger especially when it comes to the five-time defending champion.

Their latest dust-up began before the halfway point of Saturday night's race when contact sent Johnson sailing into the wall. The contact didn't appear to be deliberate, but because of the tension between the two, Johnson retaliated 56 laps later.

Initially, Busch seemed to take delight in Johnson's reciprocation and seemed rather pleased when he yelled "I've got your number!" over his team radio.

But his mood soured quickly after his fifth-place run. Busch referred to Johnson as a "five-time chump," boasted he was "in (Johnson's) head" and intimated it's been equipment not talent that's led to all of Johnson's success.

"He's got to learn how to race," Busch said. "He's been able to beat the guys the last five years by outdriving them with what he has for equipment. If he wants to switch equipment, let's see what we can do. I'm going to beat him fair and square with my Penske Dodge."

But somewhere in the hourlong post-race celebration, Busch lost his composure. He argued with a reporter on pit road who asked about the incident with Johnson, then renewed the discussion more than 30 minutes later in the media center until a NASCAR official ordered him to take a seat at the podium.

It was already tense, and only heightened when Johnson entered the room and sat down at the opposite end of the stage. And when Johnson was asked about Busch's claim of being in his head, Busch denied ever making the remark even though he said it during a live national telecast.

When shown the transcript provided by team manufacturer Dodge, Busch tore the paper in half.

NASCAR At Richmond: Kurt Busch Has To Be Restrained From Going After Reporter
Sep 10

11:55p
by Jay W. Pennell

It started with a simple question to Kurt Busch from NASCAR.com reporter Joe Menzer following two on-camera interviews by ESPN and MRN on pit road at Richmond International Raceway.

Kurt, can either you or Jimmie win the Chase Menzer began to ask.

Before Menzer could finish his thought, Busch cut him off.

How did I see you were going to come with that? Were good. Busch said.

In an attempt to end the interview, Busch turned away and started walking down pit road. Menzer called after him and said the question was legitimate following the multiple incidents with Jimmie Johnson during Saturday nights race.

At that moment, Busch turned around yelling expletives at Menzer, coming at him as if he wanted to fight. As he called Menzer names and continued to try to get at him, team members from Buschs Penske Racing team had to physically restrain Busch.

Earlier, Busch called Johnson a five-time chump after finishing fifth on Saturday.
