So sorry to hear of another great one leaving us. I had lunch today with Richie Gomes and he said he got to drive one of Sal's Pinto's a few times and said he was a great guy.

wow. spin three times and still win by 3 laps. lol...no wonder they outlawed the "superbird" thanks Chase.
Randy, The 1/2 mile track at Volusia hasnt run a regular program this year. They are only running special big time events and not many of those. I love that dirt track and have enjoyed many races there both as a spectator and racer. The track condition had began to really slip the past couple years. I remember a race two seasons ago and the track was rutted so bad the battery and box was bounced out of its brackets....
I have enjoyed many speed week deals at New Smyrna and can see that the extra publicity will bring more cars down to the area so hopefully it wont hurt their schedule.
Bobby, They called me 2 years ago when I was Vice President of DAARA and asked if we would be interested in have a Vintage National Deal of some type at the Daytona track. I went over and met with them and they were ,at that time talking about the other side of the track on the west end where they ran the flat track motorcycles. This means they have been planning this for a while.
Dave, I have gone back and read this account of the 1981 Banquet several times. Its one of your best my friend...Great stuff.. I have a pristine brochure of the 1981 Awards Banquet of Friday December 4th, 1981. Very fancy paper.
there was a # 22 Camaro that ran in west Florida in the 70's driven by Jackie McGuire. There's a pic of it on Dave Westerman Florida stock car pic site with Red Farmer in his # 97 in the picture but don't if this will help narrow it down.
wonder if there is cars out there that get those kind of MPG numbers. No wonder the auto people get rid of them....
lol, Sorry, I cant leave now, my guy just took the lead....
Great stuff Dave, I sure wish they would bring back those twin 250"s . If they did my belief is the fans would come back. I know I would....
I personally think Chase will do well no matter how he got in. I agree with you Alex on all the well thought out statements you make ref: each decade of drivers. I was never a Gordon fan but think he is one of the best drivers of all time and has been a champion at each level he has driven in going back to his childhood...
