The Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society (AIRPS) is in the process of forming a non-profit organization to try and tie all the different historical speedway groups together. By doing so we can create our own "show" schedule and keep from stepping on each other and help each group to be successful with their events. This sanctioning body would simply start at the commitee level of our 501C3 non profit group and then become a stand alone organization as membership builds and individuals step forward to run the group.Your thoughts, suggestions and comments will be appreciated.Henry
Sounds like a great idea...and a massive untertaking.
You are so correct Jeff. But just think of benefits to the average race fan and former drivers as they receive a schedule that has perhaps 10, 20, 30 or more weeks of events..........................in other words a heritage circuit visiting different cities with drivers from back in the day making the circuit and finally getting the recognition they deserve. There are 6 groups currently in place that can make this happen now: Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society (AIRPS), Historic Speedway Group (HSG), Save The Speedway (STS), National Vintage Racing Association (NVRA) and Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame (GARHOFA) plus the group forming in Columbia. Others are forming here at RacersReunion.com!AIRPS would love to host the first gathering for the Motorsports Heritage Sanctioning Body (MHSB) this September during our annual event at the former Augusta International Raceway.Other comments please!
