Goody’s Dash Series: Discount Auto Parts 200, February 14, 1997, Daytona International Speedway. Wipe-Out with 10 laps to go in the 80 lap event. Cars involved, from L to R: Paul Carr #63, Greg Dodgens #81, Ned Combs#9, (Ned still managed a top-10 finish), Jon Redman#45, (don’t know who the white car is between Ned and Jon), Andy Houston#30, Eric Wilson#92, Pat Patterson#11 and coming up into frame Gary Moore#99, Larry Caudill#77. Quote from Andy Houston, “We started last and they said we were running 10th when we went out. We had a good running car; we just kept working our way back all day. We gambled on fuel and had a plan to go the rest of the way but miscalculated and pitted a lap too early, so they put us to the end of the longest line with 30 laps to go. We were still able to come back, and then that happened. I just hate it for the guys that work on the car. A car missed a gear on the restart about four or five cars in front of me and it just bottlenecked everything real bad.” Brian Sockwell went on to claim his first seires victory, holding off Christian Elder, Darry Murray, Robert Huffman and Mike Swaim, Jr finished 5th. TIME OF RACE: 1 Hr 47 min, 23 sec AVERAGE SPEED: 111 749 MARGIN OF VICTORY: 0 130 Sec CAUTION FLAGS: 7 FLAGS FOR 33 LAPS; LEAD CHANGES: 14 LEAD CHANGES AMONG 9 DRIVERS. James Trout photo
