Miss Patty when this article was printed they had yet to start using the black flag with the cross bars on it. In the earlier days you were shown the black flag for three laps and then your scoring card was pulled. And you would get fined or lose your license or if it was for a bad cause you may be fined and lose your license.Also in those days we were still using pit boards.We did have a lighted board that we attached to the flag stand that would show your number also when it worked...

You are totally correct I didn't consider the fact that some youngster needed this info. I thank you for your post and not many young or old race fan would have caught this error.You are one smart lady and we love you on this site....
