Sitting around talking before and after the race was a good time for a young driver to learn.About a 1/2 dozen of us were discussing what to do after a slam bang contact race.It was then we kids heard from an expert, Curtis Turner.1: Don't jump out of the car until things have settled down.2: Keep your Helmet on.3; Don't worry about the other Drivers first, its his Pit Crew.4: Tire Irons can be dangerous out side of the car, but can not do as much damage if you stay in the car.Two weeks later this paid off for me at the Wilson County Fairgrounds.

Jim my father's modified ran at the Wilson, NC track in the mid to late 1950's. Car #37 his driver was Butch Torrie. I remember being there many times as a kid.

I remember Butch. If I remember correctly he raced many of the Eastern NC tracks including some in Lower Eastern Va.

I'm not sure what division you are talking about. Big Bill ran a Speedway Type Race. Also they ran a Modified/Sportsman race. I think Junior Johnson won that one.
