Here is a Track that I used to race.
MARCH 8, 1953: Harnett Speedway, Spring Lake. A crowd of 7,000 showed up on a Sunday afternoon at the half-mile dirt track. The local fans didn't go home disappointed, as Sanford's Herb Thomas led all 200 laps and won with three to spare over former Indianapolis 500 competitor Dick Rathmann. Located just off of N.C. 210, the paper clip-shaped track was long ago reclaimed by pine trees, though its outline remains visible from the air.
Jim I went on Google Earth Satellite and I think that I found the visible remains of the track you are talking about. Hwy NC 210 and 2050 Shady Grove Road, is that correct ?
Thats the place.Worst "red clay" track in the world. After the first lap you couldn't see a damn thing.
