Vintage Modifieds take to the track at Hammerdown Speedway, Red Springs, NC
I've been working on putting together a group of vintage dirt modifieds to run at some local dirt tracks in Central North Carolina and it has finally paid off. Please read what I posted on the local race chat blog site below. This is a really big step in helping to promote our racing heritage. I am so excited and want to thank everyone that has been so supportive and especially to those that are participating in the race shows.Read on...---Starting Friday, June 26 Hammerdown Speedway will be hosting the Cape Fear Classic Auto Racing Show (CFCARS) and cfcars will be performing a show once a month starting in July. This first show we were only able to muster 2 cars. The next tentative date will be July 25th, subject to change to July 18th.CFCARS or Cape Fear CARS are vintage dirt track modifieds; as of now are all 1930's model Ford, Chevy, and Pontiac coupes and sedans. Some of these cars are actual restored modifieds that raced in the 1960's, some are reproduction models however true to the modifieds of the era in almost every aspect. Some of these cars are historical relics, one of kind. Many, many hours have been spent rebuilding and building these cars.Parts are harder to come by and a some run on a low budget. We don't race for points, money, or trophies, we race for entertainment for the spectators and of course ourselves. What we are not is a "Racing Club". What I mean is we avoid rubbing in order to preserve our cars since they cannot be replaced. However, you can expect us to show our stuff. Our goal is for the spectators to see what it was like when the dirt modifieds took to the track but don't expect to see Ray Hendrick, Perk Brown, Earl Moss or Monk Tate behind the wheel if you know what I mean. This club has been a work in making for over a year, I want to thank Hammerdown Speedway and Michael Weeks for giving us the opportunity to put on a show at the track.Friday, June 26 you can get your first hand look at Cape Fear CARS. Since this show is on short notice there will be only 2 cars on hand. Hopefully by July 25th we can have 4 or more show up. Some club cars are in the shop for final repairs. Hope to see you there.Local Race Chat.com: Local Race Chat and Jim Wilmore
