"VALLO PICKS UP 2ND MAIN EVENT WIN AT MIDVALE"
MIDVALE, OH. - Aug. 12 - The Main Event Racing Series made their second appearance of the season at Midvale Speedway this past Saturday. Six divisions, filled with 130 cars on hand.
Gary Whipkey picked up right where he left off, by setting quick time for the Super Late Models with a 13.62. The Doylestown driver would have to work a little harder, however, if he was going to repeat, as he drew the number eight pill putting him eighth in the line-up.
John Vallo and Marcus Malcuit nade up the front row of the 100-lapper. It took a while for the race to get started, as when the green fell, Ruan Tedesco and Steve Gilland made contact halfway through the field. Both spun, collecting Joel McKnight, Jim Cruse, Jimmy Smith. Gilland and Carter had early end to their nights, while McKnight was able to later return, many laps down.
On the second try to get the race started the contact occurred a little nearer to the front of the field. Norm Davis slid up the track in the third turn and clipped Rich Rohrer ever so slightly, checked up, and was rammed from behind by Mack Gribble, Jr. Davis spun and collected Mike Holland, Gribble, Tedesco and Cruse. All were able to line up for the third and final try to get the
race started.
The third start was a charm. Vallo jumped into the early lead, with Malcuit following him in line. Dave Wagner and Rich Rohrer went to the low-side of John Cline and took third and fourth respectively. On lap four, Rohrer continued from his sixth starting spot by passing Wagner for third one lap later, Gribble spun causing a caution, which was a big break for the leader, Vallo. Two laos earlier, Vallo and Malcuit made a contact, causing the left rear quarter panel of Vallo's car to heavily rub the left rear tire. The sheet metal was pulled away from the rubber, and he was ready for the rest of the race.
The race got a little exciting on lap 28 when Vallo, Malcuit, and Rohrer came up on the lapped traffic. Cord Ehrhart and Smith were running in the middle of the track, while battling for position. Vallo made a daring move on the backstretch, nearly getting into the grass. The pass worked and he was able to maintain the top position. A caution came out on lap 39. Two laps after the restart, Rohrer dove under Malcuit for the runner-up spot to try and run down the leader. One more caution flag would fall, but Rohrer could not make a serious challenge for the lead. Vallo pulled away for his second win of the season.
