Hello!I have compiled a racing stats book on my Dad, Curtis Turner and am just about ready to send it to a few good men for proofing! If you have any interest in volunteering your expert advice, and time, (which I know is precious) and you kind of have a knack for spotting something that just doesn't sit right, ( Like I have a wrong date etc) then let me know!I have heard from some of you at times when I thought I had a photo rightly explained and named, and occasionally found out I was mistaken. I greatly appreciated the expert help! This is why I am asking my Racing Reunion Family, to be a part of my Curtis Turner Racing Stats Posse!Only apply for this job, if you don't want to get paid
,like to dig for facts till you are cross-eyed, and want to see the facts and get into all this just for the fun of it in general! This book is only at 46 pages at present-so shouldn't be too taxing! My Curtis Turner Racing Stats Posse will be credited in my forth coming book.Just let me know! Thanks!Margaret Sue
Thanks Tim! Exactly my point!
Hey Tim! OK! Here is my mission:, 'And your mission, should you accept!' heheI am trying to find the older stats where Daddy raced, like in ARCA.Also, other stats of his in USAC, & MARK. I seem to be pretty good on the NASCAR Stats-they are everywhere. So do you know of good references these ?My next mission, is to find the stats for race tracks that no longer exist. That'l be interesting!Thx!
Hey, I have been on one site, but it did not have any older stats on it. Let me know the site you found. See if it is the same.Thx
Oops! I came in late but I'm checking it out now. Thx!
I was discharged from the U S Army in August 1964 at Fort Polk, Louisiana. About that time (if my memory serves me) Curtis Turner was reinstated in Nascar. That ceremony took place in Winston-Salem, N.C. at an airport. Signing of papers was on the wing of an airplane. The photo that was available at that time was Alvin Hawkins (promotor of raceing at Bowman Gray Stadium) Curtis Turner, and i think Gaither Childress, Nascar Commissioner. The next weekend Turner raced in a modified race at Bowman Gray, and a week or 2 later he competed at a Grand National event at either Greeneville, or Spartanburg, S.C. (dirt tracks) i did see both of these races. As 45 years has passed, my memory tells me he was in a Petty Plymouth in the GN race. Needless to say, nobody could put on a show on dirt like Curtis Turner could. If i recall correctly, there were no guard rails in those day but just a wood fence. He backed the car into the fence in what was a beautiful power slide, but then the front end came around and caught the fence too. Much to everyones disapoointment, that put him out of the race. Thank You for this opportunity to comment.
