Right after this, Dutch's coming around a mountain highway blind curve eastbound in his own lane, and a kid is taking the middle of the road westbound-- and totals Dutch's entire left side of his '55 Buick Century Estate Wagon (matches the racing convertible; the convertible, being towed behind, is unhurt. Dutch has a broken left arm and his left leg at the hip is pinned (he'll always limp after; he has 4½ yrs to live.) Jud Larson races for him the next 2 races. Dutch is back racing at the end of June.
