Thank you for sharing,I was there a good bit from '76-'77 ish until early in '82.I was gone for several years and they went full time eighth and that never was my thing at all.I was there almost every week when Buddy Dowdy crashed heavily in his '70 Barracuda, but not that night oddly enough?'80-'81 I was present a bunch but would skip most eighth mile weekends, still do.

Buddy Dowdy of the Lynchburg area at one point I think ran a Dodge Charger that was known as The Farm Use Dodge? Then around '77-'78 he showed up racing a purple and brownish colored '70 'Cuda sporting a 426 style Hemi and ran in the Super Pro bracket.I think he was in the high tens with that car?At least an 11.00 car I think?Anyway around'79-ish?On a Friday night in eliminations someone before him had an engine let go up at the big end.The other car attempted by flashing lights to warn the starters but they sent the pair on.In that fast of a car-well you know.He hit the oil and lost it crashing heavily,it very near killed him. When he finally came back '81-'82?He had the same colors but on a '68 type Barracuda that looked much like Weaver's except it had the Hemi and ran I think 10.0-10.50s?Understand that my info was sketchy and a lot is what I recall from the paper and word of mouth. If you ask Gary he will no doubt be better able to tell you more about Buddy D. and that sad incident.I am sure enough to share this much and add that I am pretty certain that Buddy D. passed on a few years ago.
