Taken at Palm Beach Speedway probably 1951. My Father-inlaw in white, Bud Berry, was the starter. Driver is unknown. Notice seat, door open and belt bolted to runningboard. No roll bars.

A lot of us remember those days. At that time, the most useful thing about the seat belt was that it kept you from sliding across those vinyl seat covers in the turns.

but you got to say he had colorful upholstery almost matches the drivers shirt -- they had guts back then -- i can remember back when shoulder straps became mandatory --now that was something to get used to because things in car had to be repositioned so the restrained driver could reach it

I never raced with a vinyl seat in the car. We had an airplane plywood bucket seat. A lap belt, one roll bar u shaped with supports running down to the rear and welded to the frame. Regular gas tank in the trunk. A car owner wanted me to drive his car one day and it had a 5 gallon army can directly behind the seat. No way...I passed up that ride.

And windshield wipers on it and a radio antenna too -- could have drove over from Belle Glade in the car to pick up a win -- Seems I remember another who used the family car on weekends to race and the wife used it during the week to do shopping, now thats memories tommy
