1 very special race
Finally a dream come true race. Pencil August 19,2009 on your calender as the don't miss race of the year. The Whelen Modified Tour will be on the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway for the 1st time ever. Modified fans, heck Race fans in general really should make plans to attend this race. This should be the race of all races. If anyone is interested we could get a Racers Reunion.com get together. The modifieds are probably the best run fan friendly series that Nascar still sanctions. These drivers still seem to care and make themselves very accessible to the fans. I hope there are more of you out there that enjoy seeing these guys as much as I have come to enjoy them.
This will be a great event. Has anyone heard if they will run restrictor plates...? Probably will...or probably should. I'd love to go...maybe I will.
Way back in the early '60's there was at least one modified event at Bristol.......the 'Alabama Gang' (before) they were the Alabama Gang showed up and won (surprise) with Red Farmer's '34 coach taking the chekered.
Hey Bobby,Maybe I should have researched that before I posted but I'm not old enough to remember any races from the early 60's as I was born in 61. I supect they will control speed with a gear rule. That is what has been the norm in the Modifieds. Should still be a fantastic race. Only downside for me is it is a Wednsday race. Companion race to the truck series. I guess I will have to close up shop that day.
Tommy, I have a friend, origianlly from New Jersey, ran at Wall Stadim, and recently moved to N.C. His team joined the Whelen tour this summer, and he was just telling me about this Bristol race. According, to his experience, NASCAR implements a gear rule, everywhere, .......and a rule for about everything else. Makes one wonder why they call this division "modified".......it's about as "spec" as eveything else in N'CAR-land. But, they should be exciting at Bristol, anyway.
Let me know who might be coming. If we could get a Racer's Reunion group together, that would be great.
Tommy this will be a very great race. I would love to attend if possible. But the real thrill of watching the old modifieds that stand out in my mind the most was getting to watch these fenderless monsters come off of turn 4 and through the trioval at daytona what a site to behold. This event might top those old memories.
I will be there with at least 5 or 6 of my friends as of right now, looking to get a crowd together for this one.
I will be there. It should be one heck of a race. I remember that Paul Radford once went end over end there in the late 70's early 80's.
I'll be there. Already ordered tickets for the event as part of my Bristol season ticket package. Was thrilled to find out the mods will be paired with the trucks that night. Who all from here will be there? I think seating is all general admission. Let's meet up and have our own section to sit together.
