In 1964, it was a different world, and the local dirt track was THE place to go on a summer Sunday afternoon. The Carolina Beach Speedway, near Wilmington, NC hosted some very impressive crowds, as evidenced here. Stan Grimsley leads the pack follwed by Richard Brickhouse, Hoss Ellington and Frank Irving.

Also pictured is the #26 car of Jackie Rogers on the inside of the white #20 of Ken Klutz. In the infield is the 102 Ford of Sam Hilburn if memory serves me correctly. If you were to be in the infield you would have also saw Hoss's longtime mechanic, Nascar Cup engine builder Runt pittman. This little track developed quite a few Nascar competitors.
