Johnny Roberts (Baltimore?) Md. on the beach at Daytona, and (I'd guess) in the '50's. In the early '60's Johnny Roberts was awarded the NASCAR/Nesmith(sp?) award for heroism. Roberts and several others had crashed in a modified event at Richamond (Va) aka 'strawberry hill' Raceway. Fire soon erupted. The racer of Ralph Rose had landed on its side (in this crash) and Rose could not get his saftey belt unlatched. Roberts climbed from his own car, braved the flames, and extracted Rose. A very serious crash, resulted in no serious injuries thanks to the efforts of Johnny Roberts.
